Only in Wales……..(Diversity workers in Action)

OH will love this one.  The All Wales Ethnic Minority Association (AWEMA) has been in the press recently.  All for the wrong reasons.  It started when the Financial Director blew the whistle on the Chief Executive for financial irregularities (he openly admitted using £6000 of public money to pay off private credit card debts).  He was also accused by former staff of bullying.

The board of trustees were outraged at this and demanded that the CEO who employed his daughter and increased her salary from £20k to £50k in three years without board approval demanded that he say sorry.  Say sorry!!!!!!

An investigation into the £8.4m of public money that this organisation gets to help the 2.1% of the Welsh population of 3,006,400 (yes thats right all 63,134 people, but they do not help Welsh speakers as they are not a minority – really?).

The new Chair of the board of trustees now accuses the people making the accusations of racism.  You couldn’t make it up.

I was lost for words for a full 30 seconds! The f*t, f*r***n f**k is so typical of what Britain is about today! How can this be? Being back in the UK awhile must really re-confirm your reasons for living in Bulgaria.

But, what I just can’t understand, is why, bearing in mind that ‘unity is powerful’ (sorry, Paul Weller) why we (I coundn’t even utter the word ‘Brits’) put up with it? I can’t wait to move to Bulgaria, I can’t wait to be gone. I don’t have any pride in being British anymore, because I don’t think there is any reason to be so. ‘Tis very sad!

Oh, and to really top my anger, I got a letter this week telling me that I couldn’t retire until my 66th birthday, so that is 6 years the government has added to my retirement. I’m 57, worked all my life, raised two children (so 2 full-time jobs!). My retirement age was ‘recalculated’ a few years ago to October 2019, now I have got to wait until January 2021.

My plan was to move to Bulgaria, buy a house, refurbish and live off the proceeds of my house-sale in the UK until my pension kicked in, These plans are now scuppered. I’ve got to find another 15 months of living expenses, I was always on a tight budget, but now I am seriously wondering if I can do this. What if ‘they’ raise my pension age again?

I am 36 and will probably never have a ‘retirement’ date. You will be surprised by how little you need to live on in Bulgaria, So don’t give hope just yet.
