FRENCH BEANS
French Beans

These when ripe and dried become haricot beans, which are the ones eaten in every family normally supplied in a can with a tomato sauce and named ‘baked beans’ They are also delicious eaten unripe and with there fleshy green cover. Just as you would with runner beans. French beans are easy to grow and heavy cropping, they dry and store well, if you are new to growing your own food this would be a good place to start.

How to Grow French Beans

1. Plant in rows after the last frost.

2. Keep the plants free from weeds and don’t let them dry out too much

3. When picked green they can be eaten direct, salted or even frozen but freezing does alter the flavour somewhat and not for the better.
